The Basics of Roulete

The game of roullete is one of the most popular casino games. The chips do not have any denomination printed on them but the player can determine their value by their color. Players can make inside bets which have higher odds but lower payouts or outside bets which have lower risk but higher rewards.

Origins

While the exact origin of roulette is hard to verify, it’s generally accepted that the game was conceived in 1655 by French mathematician and physicist Blaise Pascal. He was experimenting with a perpetual motion machine when he stumbled upon the idea of a spinning wheel.

Pascal’s original goal was to produce a device that would continue working indefinitely without the need for energy. While his intended mission was never completed, he did end up producing a weighted wheel that eventually became the centerpiece of Paris’ gambling scene in the 18th century.

Roulette was influenced by a variety of existing European games as it began to take shape, including the French game portique and Italian games like hoca and bassette. These games lent some of their characteristics to roulette, such as the use of a rotating wheel and betting on numbers.

Variations

There are many different variations of roulette, each offering a unique take on the game. If you are a beginner, it is best to stick with the European version, which follows the traditional layout and offers a friendly house edge. If you have a bit more experience, you can try games with special betting rules and additional bets. One of these variations is La Partage, which allows players who make even predictions to get half their coins back if the ball lands on the single-zero pocket.

Bets

When playing roullete you have several betting options. You can make an inside bet by placing chips on the line separating two numbers and getting a return on your wager if the ball lands on either number. You can also place a street bet by placing your chips on three consecutive numbers. This bet pays out at a rate of 17 to 1 and the odds are also the same as those of a red or black bet.
